Repeater Club, Inc.

                                                                                                  March, 2008

Our March meeting is Tuesday, March 4, at 7:00 PM in the EOC Training Room at Linwood.  We’ll have a technical session by Paul, KC9BKZ, related to web sites, what it takes to make one, how it works, etc.  Paul has been the driving force behind our new Club Web Site, www.andersonrepeaterclub.org, and his efforts have put our club back on the (internet) map.  Many of us are fascinated by and wonder just how a person goes about building this type of site.  Paul will educate us on how he did it.

The annual Stormnet Training class is Tuesday, March 11, at 7:00 PM in the Miami Room of the Anderson Public Library.  Come early so that we can get started on the communications portion of the presentation about 6:45.  Remember that anyone who has an interest in severe weather is invited to attend.  Also if you have a bulletin board or other posting place at your work site to put up an announcement you can download the flyer on the EMA website or on our Club website (at the end of the article on the training).  Let’s make certain that Dave Tucek from the NWS has a capacity crowd again this year for his presentation.  Our County provides one of the largest audiences that he presents to.

Our repeaters continue to operate well.  The .82 repeater has had no issues at our longtime site.  The .09 repeater has done extremely well also, and gets use from a number of central Indiana folks who utilize the access to the IRLP.  The UHF repeater is fully functional also.

Our 2008 membership is currently 27 paid.  If you have not submitted your dues contribution for this year please do so.  It’s even better if you bring it to the meeting so we get to benefit from your company also!

Bernie Hill, WB9BSU, a member of our Club since 1976 has moved from his Elwood QTH to a facility in Noblesville.  Best wishes to Bernie.  We hope to hear him on the air from Hamilton County at some point.

Seth Dowden, KB9ZLP, has contracted this very serious flu and Pneumonia that is going around.   Sue called on Sunday to report that he’s in the VA Hospital recovering.  Keep Seth in your prayers as he recovers.  We look forward to having him back on his feet to attend our meetings and to respond to the EMA activities.

Gene Smith, KB9WI, and Wanda, KB9WJ of course, are wintering in Florida.  They went south after Christmas, so listen for Gene on the .09 IRLP link.  He checks in from time to time to make sure we’re keeping a close eye on the County.

We have received a membership application from Joe Marshall, KC9KHP.  Per our procedures Joe is considered a temporary member until our membership approves his application at the upcoming meeting.

On the net last Sunday a question was raised with regard to the procedure for renewal of Amateur Radio licenses.  Paul has added a link on our web site to the ARRL information that explains the FCC requirements and where to go on the FCC web site.  This should remain current and will be an easy reference to anyone who needs help in accomplishing this “once every ten year task”.

If you are an ARRL member you might want to take advantage of the ARES E-Letter dedicated to ARES and emergency communications.  Go to the ARRL web site to sign up.

See you at the meeting on Tuesday.

73,

Steve
