January, 2008

Our regular meeting will be on Tuesday, January 8, at 7:00 PM in the EOC Training Room. This is actually the second Tuesday, but with the first Tuesday being New Year’s day, it seems appropriate to move the meeting this year. Please plan to attend as this will be the election of officers for 2008.

At the November meeting the current slate of Officers were re-nominated for 2008. The nominations remain open until being closed at the January meeting, so if anyone is interested in being an officer there is still an opportunity to be nominated. The officers nominated so far are: President, Doug Townsend, KB9DXO, Vice-President Mike Dewey, KC9AOM, Secretary Steve Riley, WA9CWE, Treasurer Tim Galbraith, KB9VE, Trustees Tom Ecker, KA9SYP and Tim Galbraith, KB9VE, Technical Committee Tom Harbron, W9EEL, Phil Miller, WB9URL, Guido Politano, WB9ZJR. Our election will be at this meeting, so please plan to attend and support the officers who will lead the Club in our 39th year.

Dues are welcome at any time. So far we have received dues from: WA9CWE, KD9DR, KB9DXO, N9JDR, KB9SCC, WA9STB, K9TZJ, KE9XF, WB9ZJR and KB9ZLP. Perhaps Tim has received others that I don’t know about yet, but if you have not submitted your $20 dues donation please do so at the next meeting or sent to: Anderson Repeater Club, Inc.

We had 32 members in 2007, and we really need a few more to be able to increase our treasury to provide for repeater failures or other special projects. If you know of someone who has been a member in the past but might not have been last year invite them to support the repeaters again and take an interest in the Club. Also as new hams come into our community be sure to invite them to attend our meetings and perhaps decide to join us in support of amateur radio in Madison County.

Remember that the 2008 STORMNET Training is on Tuesday, March 11 at the Anderson Public Library, Miami Room. The doors will open at 6:30 PM. The training will start at 7:00 and conclude at 8:45. Tom is working on the program content and it will be announced soon. Be sure to invite your family and friends who have an interest in severe weather.

Our repeaters have been operating well, although there hasn’t been a great deal of activity in recent months. The holiday season is busy for everyone, but please take advantage of the opportunity to talk with those who come thru our area and ID on the repeaters.

If you found a new radio or gadget at the Fort Wayne Hamfest or perhaps got something new for Christmas bring it along to the meeting and share it with us. Let us know what it does and how you like it so far. We always enjoy a new show-and-tell.

Our Volunteer Examiners remind us that the pool of questions for the Extra Class license will be updated mid-year 2008. Therefore, if you are so inclined it’d be a good idea to study up and take the test prior to the pool changes. Several of our members have upgraded in 2007, so it is possible! Study up and take advantage of the monthly tests conducted by the Chief Anderson Club.

Hope to see you on the 9th.
73,
Steve
